The StudioWolf
Fenario Gallery Art Show, Eugene, Oregon
The big news this month is my exhibit
in the FENARIO Gallery in Eugene, OR. I dropped
off a full pickup load of stuff, over 30 paintings, most of
them full sheets, in Eugene on Sunday (Feb. 25) afternoon.
Brent Rosskopf (the gallery owner), Mike (his art
director), and their staff were still busy cleaning up from
the event the night before. I was ready to stay and help hanging,
but Brent said "Relax, Horst, we'll take care of it."
That included framing three large canvases without charge. These
guys are great.
When I came back the following Friday
(March 2) to participate in Eugene's "First Friday Art
Walk," the show was hung and looked great. Brent likes
to combine paintings with three-dimensional art, usually sculptures.
In my case, the 3-D art is all glass. From the ceiling of the
large gallery hangs a spherical installation of intricate glass
"drops" of different sizes that glitter and sparkle
in the spot lights.
Also, elegant glass vessels of unusual
color are displayed on white pedestals throughout the gallery.
These pieces compliment my own work beautifully. Thank you,
Mike and Brent.
The Eugene Art Walk starts at 5:30
PM and ends officially at 8:30. Of course Eugene has many more
art galleries than Brookings (there must be 15 to 20), and they
come in all sizes. FENARIO is one of the largest, located smack
in the middle of the art district, on Willamette between 8th
and Broadway, less than two blocks from the Hult Performing
Arts Center. I visited about a half dozen of the other galleries
before the Art Walk started. When I got to FENARIO, the first
visitors were already snacking at the food table and sipping
their wine. I joined them. Brent introduced me to some of his
friends and customers. Most of them were surprised to see a
watercolorist (that's what Brent had billed me as) produce such
an amount of big and unusual art: "They don't look like
watercolors." I had to confess that most of my recent stuff
was mixed media. No one complained. It was a great evening.
We did overtime and I loved it. When I left, I was hoarse from
three hours of continuous talking.
I like everything about this exhibit:
the place, the people, the atmosphere. If you come through Eugene
in the near future, go and see for yourself. The exhibit will
be open through April 30th. Fenario Gallery is located at 881
Willamette Street, downtown Eugene, OR.
