The June 10 Art Walk -
a report by Horst with help from Stu
The 2nd anniversary of the Brookings
Art Walk had a good turnout, just as expected. The Walk is getting
bigger, but the space on this website remains the same, thus
we can only bring highlights here - in random order.
Library:
The mix of the art was unusual: the winners of the Azalea Festival,
with all its diverse categories. There were so many works with
ribbons that the show had to be extended into the small conference
room. And .... the works in there had no labels! Horst's fault,
guys. He fell down on the job again. Proof that he needs more
help! Call him and offer to volunteer next month to fill that
hole - and others.
A new pianist appeared on the scene: Tim Greathead of Gold Beach,
whose watercolors we saw there just recently, turns out to be
an exciting piano player, who, with his distinct style, complements
the talent on hand. We hope to hear more of him in the coming
months. Welcome aboard. The food table was the best in memory,
thanks to the participating artists and Fred Meyer, and the
hostess, Carol Salin, who coordinated the feast.
As usual the biggest crowd came
at 6:03 when the Limericists recited their "poetry."
The theme was "mermaids." Why mermaids? They were
practicing for their performance at the 2nd annual Merry Time
Art Fest at the Biscuit Gallery in Gold Beach, which has mermaids
as the subject of a humorous art competition (in addition to
a more serious juried maritime show). Mark the date: Saturday,
July 1, from 7 to 10 P.M. at Gold Beach Books. It will be good:
three hours of food, music, art and comedy.

Signature Gallery:
The new Signature Gallery was jumping. Joe Tonini showed his
giclee prints next to the original works. In the special case
of "2 guitars," a watercolor by Horst Wolf, the print
on canvas was about twice the size of the original - huge- and
looked even better. Great cooperation between the artist and
the printer. And no glass, no mat, no reflections! Way to go.
Words and Pictures:
Pete Chasar and Audi Stanton talked about their art and fielded
questions. "Artists Talk" has become an important
part of our Art Walk.Sorry
I missed the reading by John Graesch, but I had a date with
guest horn player Garry Schauer at the library, that I didn't
want to miss. This was the 2nd time Garry played his Fluegelhorn
for us and the crowd loved his old jazz standards. I felt honored
to accompany him - no practice nothing, just wing it, kid, and
Garry did great! We'll do it again, Garry, won't we?
That's about all I was able to
sample. The rest you've got to imagine from the photos. Maybe
Bill Schlichting or Marge Woodfin will write more about it in
the PILOT? They both were there and participated as Limericists.
Visit this site again around June 24 when the program for the
July Art Walk will be posted.
Until then,
Horst
