The
Art Walk of February 9, 2008
Reported by Horst with photos
by Steve Combs
After long rains the sky cleared
up just in time for our February Art Walk. Despite the cold,
a lot of Art Walkers turned out and had a ball as usual.
The special events started off
at the Central Gallery with the Limericists waxing about
The Art of Love. With Valentines day approaching,
the Limerick Queen, Lynne Guild, had her troops present
a mixture of the usual raw jokes sweetened by romantic flute
music about my heart belongs to my wife, the true
love of my life, etc. etc. The crowd loved it, of
course, the majority being woman. Immediately following
were the BIGs, the Brookings equivalent of the Sirens
of old Greek mythology. They presented a series of new songs
that were a hit with the audience.
I wish though Art Walkers in the back of the room didn't
talk quite as loud. Unfortunately, there are no photos of
these events because of a shortage of Art Walk photographers.
Look at the photos of the events
at Banana Belt Music, Signatures Gallery, Eye for Art and
Pieces of Time (POT). Here we have photographs, but no reporter
on the spot. You might look at www.wildriversart.com
or wait for Bill Schlichtings/Marge Woodfins
report in the PILOT. They may have covered it - I hope.
In my view the high point of the
Art Walk this time was at Word and Pictures, where professor
Wolf (aka Horst) lectured on Life on Mars, reporting
on his trips to this lonely planet and its inhabitants,
and signed booklets titled Martians for Adults
for those that had the 15 bucks to buy em. In addition
there was Earl Mohr, the Wizard from Gold Beach, to read
poetry about Mars, and local writer Jean Sullivan present
some of her own works. A triple hitter at Words and Pictures!
At the library we had two events.
First, Lorie Johnson demonstrated Tai Chi moves. It was
her 2nd performance on the Art Walk. A pleasure to watch
those elegant, peaceful and soothing moves by a lady that
radiates her love for life. We hope to have her back in
summer. Second, Chef Devon Morgante came all the way from
Crescent City to show us how to do the perfect chocolate
cookie (I think - I wasnt there, but Steve Combs,
who took the photo, told me about it. I hope I got it right.)
I include a few photos I took at
the musician's party afterwards. We had a ball as you can
see.
Tune in again at the end of February
when you will find the program for the March Art Walk on
this site. Until then, stay healthy, warm and happy.
Horst
