After days of rain, Brookings
11th Art Walk was blessed with clear skies.
At the Library Gallery, watercolorists Liz James, Buzz
Stewart and Jay Mosby, greeted their admirers, while Tom Broderick
and Horst Wolf wrestled about who was going to play the piano.
Shirley Hyatt from the Wild River Ramblers made a surprise appearance
with her violin. Steadfast in the middle stood Sara Broderick*
creating a pastel portrait of the Lizard (Liz James).
At Words and Pictures, Robert Scheppler read from Hans
Christian Andersens Mermaid sitting on the
floor below a huge canvas of a mermaid* painted by Ron Oden,
guest artist from Reno, Nevada. Roberts delivery was so
captivating, that Nina Paulsen* quit playing her piano to listen
in. One of the Art Walkers was so excited by Rons giant
oil painting of three fish, that he ripped it off the wall to
make sure nobody would buy it before he got to the cash register.
In Brian Scotts Dungeon Gallery, photographer Jim
Coffee* predicted that classical photography was out the window.
Digital imagery was arriving: in 3D! Lon Goddard* sat plucking
his guitar, while a good looking blonde sat at his feet and
admired him; I dont know why. To bring the happy mood
to a climax, Victoria Weller and Michael Fox performed the skit
Othello from The Compleat Wrks of Wllm Shkspr. They performed
it twice to a standing-room-only audience.
Pete Chasar, star at Manley Art Center, showed how create
a large acrylic canvass. One of Brookings dignitaries, councilman
Dave Gordon,* talked about it in glowing terms. I didnt
see Petes show myself, but Im sure Dave was exaggerating.
I think it was the music by Carl Rovainen and his trio that
made Dave euphoric.
