2nd Saturday Brookings Art Walk of 8 April 2006

(Photos by Stu Watkins, words by Horst Wolf)
I, Horst, wasn't in town for this Art Walk, so all I'm going to write below is a short summary of what I heard from others. Luckily, Stu took pictures, so those of you who couldn't make it either, can see the people who were there, especially the "performers". A picture is worth a thousand words! There you have it.

The Limericists did their usual stick at the Manley Art Center, this time making fun of the Art Walk Musicians. Marge Woodfin bent Art Walker's arms to buy the Limericists' first edition booklet. At $5 a bargain. Those who missed the opportunity, can buy the jewel at Words and Pictures.

Brian Scott opened his remodeled building for a first inspection to Art Walkers. From what I hear it's impressive: three restaurants! One on every floor. I am curious what the prices will be. Will I be able to afford a piece of pie there, or even a cup of coffee?
At Words and Pictures Pat Malone's reading from her work was well received. These readings have become an integral part of the Art Walk, same as Nina's piano artistry. Ron Oden's art work , especially his nudes, were often mentioned as outstanding by those I quizzed.

One of the high points was Artists Talk in the library. It seems Pete Chasar, one of the featured artists, "chaired" a thoroughly enjoyable discussion of the four artists (Marne Helgeson, Pete Chasar, Tim Greathead, James McCarten) explaining their work, their motivations, their problems and the enjoyment they derive from painting landscapes.

And where was I? Why did I miss the Art Walk? Where did I hide? I was at a meeting of the Watercolor Society of Oregon in the Portland area (Beaverton/Tigard). One of my works, "2 guitars'" was juried into their annual "Aquaeous Media Exhibition." I was one of only five artists chosen from the coast. In the last photo you can see me and my entry into the show.

Come back to this site at the end of April, and you'll find the Art Walk program for May. Just a teaser: we will add two new venues!
