The StudioWolf Gallerie Karon Show, Ashland, Oregon

The The first-ever show concentrating on "My Martians," the whimsical figures (with accompanying limericks) I have produced on and off for the last year or so, opened with an artist's reception on 3 August 2007. Karen Wasser, owner/operator of Gallerie Karon in Ashland, Oregon, graciously made room in her gallery to hang these extra-terrestrial creatures, which I observed and recorded on paper during the three trips I have made to that planet. My Martian show at Gallery Karon will be up throughout August.

This artist's reception was part of Ashland's monthly "1st Friday Art Walk." The town was flooded by visitors coming to the famous Shakespeare Festival. Practically all plays in the three major Ashland theaters were sold out. The local art scene benefits from this state of affairs, as you might imagine.

The greatest pleasure for me during the evening was listening to the Jazz Duo Fellman/Fain in the background. They played mostly older standards which they interpreted for guitar and bass. No piano! No drums! Just guitar and bass - magnificent! The most delightful version of chamber-jazz there is.

I spent most of my time talking to gallery visitors, lecturing about my 'experiences' on Mars, reciting limericks, and pointing out that giclée prints are available of every Martian scene I ever painted (55 total). Although both original paintings and giclée prints sold, the biggest sellers were the three booklets that record my scientific Martian observations in a scholarly manner. There were many, many smiles and a few loud laughs. Many people told me that it was refreshing to see an artist who didn't take his art too seriously, which enforced my own feelings on that matter.
