Horst’s Martian Exhibit in Salem, February-March 2009
Cara Baldwin, Galleries Curator for the Bush Barn Art Center in Salem, OR, asked me last November to put together a show of my Martian watercolors for the FOCUS Gallery. So I assembled “The Martian IRS and Similar Horror Stories.” The exhibit was expertly hung; the artist reception was well prepared. Newspaper articles, fliers, invitations, and postcards told the public about the event. Gallery staff and volunteers manning the food table were at the ready when we arrived.
All in all, it was a very enjoyable reception. I want to thank Cara Baldwin, her staff, and all the volunteers for their efforts in making this such a successful show. I also had the fortune to meet Richard Hardcourt, Executive Director of the Salem Arts Council, who suggested a new Martian theme, the “Banana Belt Martians,” and promised to write the first limerick. I’m waiting, Richard.
