Dear Friends,
Dale Wells and Horst Wolf, watercolorists
from Brookings, were the featured artists at Bandon's
2nd Street Gallery on June 28 and 29. Gallery owner
Richard Rahmlow and his manager, Susan,
were most gracious hosts. In addition to the works of
Wells and Wolf that were hanging at their usual spaces
in the gallery, Richard had prepared two display cubes
for the artists to exhibit more paintings.
Dale spent most of his time
demonstrating to a curious public how he painted sunflowers,
one of his favorite subjects. Horst had brought his
keyboard and entertained the ever-changing crowd with
his mellow brand of chamber jazz. He got his kicks out
of watching people move their bodies to his rhythms.
The two even sold a few works, to Richard's delight.
The weather held steady, despite a forecast of rain,
so the gallery had a good number of visitors despite
the high price of gas.
This was the second time that
Dale and Horst participated in the "Meet and Greet
the Artist" events that Richard started last year.
Let's hope there will be many more.
Horst
PS: any of the paintings you see under Recent
Work can be had as a limited edition giclee
at any size and at a reasonable price. Just email

ART WALK OF JULY 12 - report by Horst, photos by Steve
Combs
Under a perfect blue sky Artist Pete Chasar started
his Guided Tour of the Art Walk at the Manley
Art Center, where the theme of the month was the
4th of July. Taste O Honey provided
the entertainment. This was their first appearance at
Manley. We want them back again next month,
was the unanimous opinion of the Manley governing board.
Next tour stop was at Signatures
Gallery. The artist of the month was Lihua Zhao who
showed her large colorful oils of, what I would call
Contemporary Chinese art, although you have
to see for yourself to appreciate her own personal style.
Sandy Bonnie, the gallery owner gave a brief talk entitled
what is GOOD art? If I can summarize in
a sentence: good art is what YOU like. She gave some
tips on how to start collecting.
Next door at Eyes for
Art Gold Beach artist Lorraine Filippone showed
her abstract expressionist art. There wasnt enough
space for more than one of her giant canvasses, but
Steve Combs, our Art Walk photographer, caught her in
front of it.
At the next stop Susie and
Dennis, the owner of Wrights Custom Framing
in Crescent City, proudly showed their brand new Brookings
store to the Art Walkers. Sara Broderick, artist and
art teacher at the local colleges, exhibited her art
and did a continuous demo. Some of the artists coming
through were happy to see Susie and Dennis in Brookings.
Now we dont have to drive all the way to
Crescent City to get our stuff framed.
At Words and Pictures tour
guide Pete took a brake, changed coats, and gave a brief,
highly interesting talk about Advertising and
Art. Pete should know, he spent a career in advertising.
He was followed by Audi Stanton, the other featured
artist, who talked briefly about her work. As usual,
at 5:30, one of the local writers presented his poetry.
This time it was Clif Siple from Nesica Beach, who wore
a Scottish Kilt to emphasize what he had to say.
The last tour stop was the
library, at present our largest exhibit hall. The show
there featured artists who will participate in the upcoming
Festival of the Arts on the Boardwalk by
the harbor. The high point for the art-walking children
was one of librarian-artist Dori Blodgets Paint
Along for Kids. Although I saw several adults
around her table swinging brushes, among them Wilhelm
Schlichting, feature editor and Ragged Edge
writer of our PILOT. He showed me the result. Im
not sure Id call it art.
Thats all for today.
Apologies to those venues, artists, and musician I didnt
mention for lack of space. Although, you may find yourself
pictured on one of Steves photos below. Also look
at Nolas web site www.wildriverscoastart.com
and see the shots she took.
